Found this joke on the net:

How to write a paper in college/university:
1. Sit in a straight, comfortable chair in a well lit place in front of your computer.
2. Log onto MSN and ICQ (be sure to go on away!). Check your email.
3. Read over the assignment carefully, to make certain you understand it.
4. Walk down to the vending machines and buy some chocolate to help you concentrate.
5. Check your email.
6. Call up a friend and ask if he/she wants to go to grab a coffee. Just to get settled down and ready to work.
7. When you get back to your room, sit in a straight, comfortable chair in a clean, well lit place.
8. Read over the assignment again to make absolutely certain you understand it.
9. Check your email.
10. You know, you haven’t written to that kid you met at camp since fourth grade. You’d better write that letter now and get it out of the way so you can concentrate.
11. Look at your teeth in the bathroom mirror.
12. Grab some mp3z off of kazaa.
13. Check your email. ANY OF THIS SOUND FAMILIAR YET?!
14. MSN chat with one of your friends about the future. (ie summer plans).
15. Check your email.
16. Listen to your new mp3z and download some more.
17. Phone your friend on the other floor and ask if she’s started writing yet. Exchange derogatory emarks about your prof, the course, the college, the world at large.
18. Walk to the store and buy a pack of gum. You’ve probably run out.
19. While you’ve got the gum you may as well buy a magazine and read it.
20. Check your email.
21. Check the newspaper listings to make sure you aren’t missing something truly worthwhile on TV.
22. Play some solitare (or age of legends!).
23. Check out bored.com.
24. Wash your hands.
25. Call up a friend to see how much they have done, probably haven’t started either.
26. Look through your housemate’s book of pictures from home. Ask who everyone is.
27. Sit down and do some serious thinking about your plans for the future.
28. Check to see if bored.com has been updated yet.
29. Check your email and listen to your new mp3z.
30. You should be rebooting by now, assuming that windows is crashing on schedule.
31. Read over the assignment one more time, just for heck of it.
32. Scoot your chair across the room to the window and watch the sunrise.
33. Lie face down on the floor and moan.
34. Punch the wall and break something.
35. Check your email.
36. Mumble obscenities.
37. 5am - start hacking on the paper without stopping. 6am -paper is finished.
38. Complain to everyone that you didn’t get any sleep because you had to write that stupid paper.
39. Go to class, hand in paper, and leave right away so you can take a nap.

Kinda describes me now...im supposed to be mugging for bio spa! Nvm shall go to sch tmr and complain that I mugged for bio spa until 1am. ^^

Hi.

Nothing interesting happened today, except maybe for assembly and AMC.

For assembly today, we had a students' forum by the High School Council. Some really unglamorous remarks were made, such as some smart-aleck trying to be funny by asking if he can bring a girl along for batch dinner. When his comment was not accepted, he said something along the lines of "liddat how to end the night with a BANG?", as this phrase was used in the presentation earlier, though not in that sense. Some other guy also made fun of the chairman, as he was not wearing the school badge, mockingly suggesting a "Rent a School Badge" scheme, modelled after one of the chairman's initiative, "Rent a textbook", which eventually failed to materialise after he rose to power.

Aiya, even though we all know that the HSC has been underperforming (as it has always been), and it might be alright to taunt them for awhile, it is really unacceptable to say those kind of things during a formal setting, especially when there are teachers around. Felt really awkward when those people voiced out their opinions. While it is ok to relax abit, we should also know our limits lar, and not try to humiliate other people in front of the whole cohort. Personally, I find that though the council has come up with some interesting proposals, they seriously spend too long doing all those planning work and in the end nothing is really being done in reality. Want to do anything, just be decisive and efficient with it, no need to talk and do so much background work. People cannot see all the behind-the-scenes work you do, they can only see the final result. By the time u finish planning we all go JC already.

Nevertheless I understand that councillors are also students too, having to deal with academic stress as we all do. Just hope that batch dinner will be a successful one.

AMC, came out of the classroom feeling giddy sia. The first question and the last question difference in standards is like..aiya heck care anyway maths ace max le. Chionged to bio olympiad training after that for 2 hours, then went home by myself because yit khai pangseh me.

Tmr bio spa, hope to do well.

NDP coming up in a few days time. Looking forward to seeing the marching as part of the audience.

Random: Found this random pic in my handphone, taken during racial harmony day. Haha looks like a vietnamese protest going on in our school.

Today bio lesson almost half of the class got locked outside because they were playing basketball and were late. Can't help but think that tancw's smb message was referring to my class, partially at least.

Started writing our own testimonials during english lessons today to help relieve teachers' workload. There is even a powerpoint slide to teach us how to write, what to include and what not to include. For example write only good points and not bad points. Sensible though I find it quite hypocritical. Like for example, Mrs Chai told us that some 4C guy wrote something along the lines of "even though I am not well-liked by my classmates...", and told us not to do so because our future employers would not want to employ someone who is disliked. But actually almost the whole aphelion sec 4 despises that guy because of his attitude.

I mean, whats the use if everyone's testimonials describe that guy as a saint, when in fact he got so many undesirable traits? How are employers going to determine the real personaility of his prospective employee? IMO, testimonials are just like packaging some lousy product until it looks very attractive to fool the buyer (the employer, in this case). Duno whats wrong with society nowadays, everything looks so nice on the outside but actually its rotten inside. I actually despise people who try means and ways to build up their portfolio when their character is like crap and they do nothing about it.

What can I do? Nothing, except to go with the flow and write the testimonial as I am told loh. Supposed to write with those kind of very cheem english. Hopefully I have enough things to fill up the page. Btw, the person who is going to vet my class's testimonial suay suay is...nvm, lets just say that hopefully my testimonial won't be too screwed huh.

Funny happenings of the day: "巢什么鬼生!”--by our chinese teacher when she was trying to address my classmate(巢翰生)but she forgot the name. Immediately after that she pointed to Zhe Hou and shouted "巢翰生!”again. Guess old age really causes memory loss.

Funny happenings of yesterday:
Mrs Seck: "What is the importance of 1,2-dibromoethane?".

Jun Song: "Cracking". (Wrong answer)

Mrs Seck(frustrated): "You want me to crack your bones isit?!".

Jun Song(after stoning for more then 10 seconds): "err...Yes".

Mrs Seck(frustrated but amused): "Can I crack your bones?!".

Jun Song(after stoning for more then 10 seconds again): "err...Yes".

Mrs Seck(frustrated but greatly amused): "What will happen if i crack your bones?!".

Jun Song(blur look): "I will die".

(followed by 4D uproar)

Felt much better today, thanks to everyone for your care and concern.

Had maths test today, made alot of careless mistakes even though I knew how to do all the questions...tsk had at least 3 careless mistakes which I know of already.

Got back chinese test, b3, 67 marks. Ferris also got 67. In fact register no 7,8,9,10 all got 67 marks. Quite coincidential. Felt ok since the test wasn't easy, and I knew I did my best. Among all the segments only the 成语 part can be memorised and I got 19/20. The rest seriously quite hard. Aiya must do something to improve my chinese. Maybe I should start blogging like gerald...haha.

Mrs Chai said that we should start writing our testimonials already, and submit to her for vetting. Seriously come to think of it i did not even achieve much in my secondary school life. Nvm shall take one step at a time.

Released at 3.20pm instead of 4.00pm today, as Mrs lol Loi was on medical leave. Come to think of it, almost every week we would be released early due to some reason. Went to library after sch to mug abit wth yitkhai as I realised that I cannot study effectively at home as I will spend my time doing other things like typing this blog post.

SMRT seriously needs to improve on its bus services. The air con machiam not working liddat. By the end of the trip me and yk both 汗流浃背. The window got those kind of greasy and oily stuff also, quite disgusting. Need to chiong hw already, did not really complete my assignments these past few days as I spent most of the afternoon sleeping. bb

By the way, the Black Knights advertisment on TV is dam zai lar. Looking forward to watching the display during NDP.

Woke up at 8am today to gym with my family...reached there and realised that the gym haven't opened yet, so i went to run 2.4, then slack around to dry myself until 9am.

First time going to the gym at yishun stadium there, the equipment same brand but quite old, not new models like what our school gym has (which explains our steep school fees). The people there are also like quite spam...3 or 4 ppl queing to use one machine. They should restrict the people going in IMO. Feeling quite tired now, shall take a nap before starting continuing my homework.

Things to do for the weekend:

1) Chinese 晨光伴读
2) Chinese newspaper report
3) Maths Revision 1 worksheet
4) Physics Prelim Paper 2004
5) Study for Physics SPA
6) Study for Maths Test

Post it here so that I won't forget them. IHC test is postponed from next tues to 4th august, got more time to borrow notes from 4C (yisheng rejie and jaron help) because our IHC teacher dosen't really give us useful notes.

Time to start on my homework. bb

P.S. Can expect a new blogskin soon =)

Last day of the week again. Had maths test today, quite confident of myself, just that i didn't know how to do a part of a question. Other then that still ok bah. Hopefully can help to pull my overall maths grade up. Don't want to screw my msg this term.

By the way, today during consortium assembly Mrs Ke announced again that 4D got top in cohort again with an msg of 1.98. Good job 4D ppl.

Actually today supposed to have half day but since we had rat dissection, our class still ended at 1.30pm. Quite cruel IMO, I think the mouse is quite cute lar, white and furry, and we are supposed to use pins to pin the four limbs of the mouse onto the styrofoam board, and then cut open it and observe the body parts while removing them, such as the intestines, kidney, liver, stomach, lungs, heart. Shall not post the pictures coz it might freak some ppl out. For me, I did not take part in the cutting, left the dirty job to my benchmate while I just observed. Personally I am quite against animal testing, though I know that it is impossible for animal experimentation to be eradicated completely. It is also one of the main reasons why I am deliberating whether to take bio in JC or not as I dont want to be forced into dissecting animals if i take bio, though its my best subject and I like it. Never mind, when the time comes then I make my decision, now just focus on doing well for EOYs.

After school wanted to go gym, but ferris said that gym today was closed at 2, so went to play soccer with gerald instead, then went to KAP to find yit khai before going home. Duno why the bus took like 1h30mins to reach the interchange...sit until butt pain sia.

Shall go and sleep now. Need to compensate for my lack of sleep in the past few days. bb.

Arrgh..today was spammed with stuff..very tired now so just post abit before sleeping.

Ok so today after school got english term test. My performance was...lets just say that i really hope that SRQ will be taken as test mark because I thought my expository essay was 3+3, then in the end no time write finish all so i wrote the first 3...haha super screwed.

So after english test ended around 4, made my way to JC side for bio olympiad training at 4.15 all the way until 6.15. Everyone was surprised to see that NYGH also sent their students here for training. Seems like its damn hard to get into the International Bio Olympiad team according to Mrs Foo(haha junkai are u reading this), only like 1 team of 4 from various JCs would be sent for the final competition at Tsukuba, Japan in 2009. Doubt I can make it but try my best to at least qualify for SBO. So we had this lecture about animal beheavior (Ethology), then after that had to form groups of around 5 for some discussion. So our group comprised of me, weijing, nelson and 3 other NY girls...after that we were dismissed at 6.15pm.

Chionged to carpark where my father was waiting to fetch me home as I had tuition at 7.30. Ok so during tuition revised the topics for tomorrow's maths test, hopefully I can get A1 at least, though I still suck at proving-type questions.

Guess I'll re-do the previous maths paper again before I sleep. Wish me luck.

Aha, another boring tuesday is over! I usually dont look forward to tuesdays, as lesson ends at 4pm.

Today at flag raising, I heard alot of people talking about half day, honestly I was quietly hoping that it would be today, at the same time hoping that its not because exams are around the corner and some lessons now are quite important, especially for maths, since we are like 1 topic behind other classes. In the end, Dr Hon went up and said this year's list of achievements are too long that he need to put them down on paper. Was quite sad that after reading all the individual sports category, he just simply said that all uniform groups got gold, Never even name the ep3. Call me petty or wad, but I find it quite biased against uniform groups. In the end he gave us a 3-period off on friday. Quite useless if you ask me, our class still have to take maths test and dissect a rat for bio after 11.20am on friday anyway.

Had the usual lessons after flag raising. Duno why but Mrs Chai like to pick on Ferris alot. Haha, poor Ferris, poor utama, poor faliman. 1 period of maths gone due to QSE survey, which everyone anyhow clicked to get it over and done with. In the end we finished the survey in less then 20mins, so get to study for the chem SPA 1/2 test which was on the next period. Almost made a careless mistake which resulted in my final answer being 0.02XX% instead of 28.8%. Heng ar.

Went home after school with Yit Khai. While we were walking home from interchange, someone shouted "AI, AI!" from behind. Didn't really take note until he shouted "auxillary instructor!". Turned around and saw this Mike from YTSS. Was in the same batch of AI course, surprised that he still recognise me after so long. Last time we met was last year NCC day parade I think. Last time during AI he always look dam fierce when doing PDS drills, like wan kill ppl with the rifle. Chatted awhile before I continued walking home. Did pull ups at the exercise corner near my house there then came home.

Need study for English term test this Thursday and Maths test this friday. 语言后续,就此搁笔。bb

Part D 08

Part C 08 Training Team: Bertram, Aaron, Ferris, Me

The long awaited NCO-ship. How time flies. Felt very excited to be taking over and become leaders of the unit. Felt glad to be working under Bert as I respected him alot even as cadets, and with Ferris and Aaron. Took over Yi Ming's part on 6 Jul 08. It was up to us to bring them into their last phase of cadet life, to groom them into leaders of tomorrow. After several meetings together before ORD to discuss our goals and plans, our training team was mentally prepared for NCO-ship.

Hillary Challenge was shortly after ORD. We were notified of the performance only a few days before the event. Nevertheless, Aaron and Weilong managed to chiong out the formation and the performers came to school almost everyday to train for it. If im not wrong, we took less then a week. My first triple jumbo performance, though it was from the opposite side, as I could not do the other way. The audience were also one of the best, kept cheering and clapping for us. One of the best performances for us indeed, and even David Low came to praise us after the event ended.

Video can be found here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YXvCwEtN4nc

First task at hand for our training team was NDP'07, where the Part Cs would be marching as GOH in front of the whole school. All the drill trainings, in MSCP, on the track, on the field, paid off well as they put up a good display. We bought a cake for them as well as cards which we forgot to bring on the day itself. Rushed off to perform PDS at the hall after the marching.

March Pass can be found here:

NDP PDS performance can be found here:

Orienteering Competition was next. Honestly, our training team had a hard time choosing the team, it was not as simple as it seemed. Eventually, we managed to come up with the best team after much discussion. During one of the trainings while Bert and Aaron were at Senior Spec, me and ferris ran with the team to KAP and treated them to milo, then I accidently spilt the milo onto Yong Le. Haha sorry about that. The competition date was 24th Oct 07, and the orienteering team, accompanied by the training team + sam and weijing, went to HQ to support them. Was quite sad that we got route D instead of route C, if not we can get to keep the plaque for good if we win 3-times in a row. Never mind, still do our best. The team eventually set off after what seemed like an eternity of waiting. The rest of us stayed back, looking at the time, wondering when will they come back. Eventually they came back, having the same score as RI. We went to check the exact timing and found out that they won RI by 4 seconds. However, we were still not sure if we had indeed won. It was only when they announced RI as the runner up that we broke into furious appluase. Haha some of the people turned around to look at us, thinking that we were from RI. But we clapped even harder when they announced HCI as champions. 3 times in a row!

IMT competition next. Went to SAFRA for Part C, B, and A'07 training. Not enough time to train properly but no choice, all the slots taken up by other sch ppl. According to Bert's blog, Part Bs 6th in West district, Part As 2nd in West district. Their competitions were before ours, and I felt quite satisified with the results, even though we could have done better. Hopefully the next batch would be able to improve on the unit's shooting, as shooting is usually the cause for our failure to win BUC.

EOY Camp 07 next. Jun Kai was RSM, Gerald was ARSM. I was Section NCO for Delta Section together with Daryll, Jun An and Jun Yan. Alfred was I/C for the first activity, Auction. Quite slack in my opinion but nice to see the cadet's faces when they tio extra rifle or something worthless. Route march next. Our shooting team went to HQ for a live shoot practice and therefore missed part of the route march. When we went there, it rained heavily so we were unable to shoot until the rain has cleared. Decicing that its not worth waiting there, we told the sir that we have camp and left. Came back, usual stuff and ate dinner. Bunk check, first time checking cadet's bunks as NCO. Was quite harsh on them for first day as it would remind them to clean up the bunk properly for the next 2 days. After that was washing up. A few NCOs went to the second floor directly above the toilet entrance to check on the cadets, and since the cadets didn't know that NCOs were looking at them, some of them did funny things like coming out of the toilet bottomless(=.=) or wearing their shirt the wrong way and cursing loudly. Wargames followed after that. Next day got PT test for the part Bs (c08) and alot of people reported sick. NCOs' fault for not taking into account the tiring activities that the cadets have went through. Was patrolling for clock tower, quite a few cadets slept. Jun Kai made them run 2.4 in the middle of the night, around 3am, + some extra punishments. After that Renjie and some of us went to steal rifles. Camp only lasted 3 days so we POPed the day after.

Part C live shoot comp was after camp. The team comprised of Aaron, Daryll, Ren Jie and me. Weijing accompanied us there. I think our unit was the only unit without a TO to help us verify our scores. The competition place quite zai, got TV screen beside the foxhole, where you can see where your shots have landed, and the targets will rise up and fall down if you shoot them, just like the simulator. I initially thought that the targets were those printed on paper and you had to walk 100m away to hang them on and walk back to take the shoot. After waiting for awhile, it was our turn to shoot. Had to put on helmet and earplugs. Climbed into the foxhole and tried to relax myself. 1st 2 magazines were zeroing rounds. My rifle was quite good, the shots only displaced slightly to the bottom left. The TV screen beside me even helped to measure my groupings, 10cm++ and 11cm++..quite lousy for 100m. After that was the real target shots, 12 deliberate and 12 snapshot. By that time I was not that nervous, as I actually enjoyed shooting a real rifle. The feeling of the recoil against your shoulder hollow and the smell of gunpowder quite zai. In the end I managed to get 23/24, missed the last shot. Had only a few seconds to shoot, and my hands were like trembling, so couldn't aim properly. In the end our school missed the finals by a few points. Quite disappointed but never mind, whats done is done. No point looking back.

Missed orientation due to BSC satelite campus trip. Regretted that decision as I realised that missing 1 month of NCO-ship was also costly. If I knew that there would be one in december 08 I would have gone for that instead. Still, I talked to the training team while I was in Beijing to keep myself updated of happenings. Trained pull-ups on the laundry bar with Jun Yan, Zitao and Hong Run.

IFC and Trainfire mutuals for part Cs followed shortly. Honestly, it was the most boring period of my NCO-ship. Dreaded going to trainings just to stand behind and hear the cadets presenting mutuals. Did my best to identify the cadet's mistakes as well as re-learn some of the things that I've forgotten. Though it was mostly boring, occasionally there would be some funny presentations which made us laugh. Some examples include Daniel's "Dig in is not to eat", or Bertrand's difficulty in spelling the word "soldier". Laughed with the section for abit as I didn't mind mutual presentations being abit more casual. Affirmation Ceremony and RSAF was also in this period. Did my second triple jumbo performance for affirmation, this time doing the same way as bert.

In a flash, Mid-Year camp arrived. Ren Jie was RSM while I was ARSM. 1st day, bonding activities, mutual presentations, immersions, followed by the usual stuff. IMO, the bonding actvitiy could have been improved as we did not really explain the rationale to the company before the activity, leading to them just doing the activity blindly and treating it as a PT session. War Games, actually did not want to play at first, + renjie also don't want to play, but last camp already, better cherish the chance. So I changed to long 4, then renjie also changed, haha. Sad to see that jing kai got injured badly and had to be sent to hospital. Was worried that TOs might ban wargames in future camps because it might pose a danger hazard. Aiya, not purposely one wad. Said some funny stuff in the middle of the night when renjie woke me up..nvm. Day 2, main activity was orienteering. Realised that the mobile medics forgot to bring their medic boxes(=.=), so me and renjie took the boxes and went around namly finding them. After passing them all the boxes, renjie had to do big business urgently, so we no choice take bus back school. Then he left his walkie-talkie on the bus, omg.. Luckily Jaron was able to contact the bus personnel and get it back. SOC and MIA after that. Actually SOC and MIA supposed to be on day 1 but it rained, so it was changed to day 2, which resulted in day 2 becoming too physically tiring for the company, and many cadets reported sick. Seeing the situation, we decided to change the plans to games for the cadets to relax for abit and loosen up the tense atmosphere. Usual stuff before sleeping. 3rd day, Route March and NE trail. Route march was slack compared to past camps, but the scenery was quite nice, get to see planes taking off and landing too. Had lunch at food centre before going to NE trail. Me and elffred tio pangseh halfway through the trail..Solonite, was talking to some part Cs to find out more about them, and to keep myself awake at the same time. Night PT for ppl who slept were not as hiong as last camp. The next day we POPed in the early afternoon and that concludes our last NCC camp.

Had chalet 2 days after camp. Haha Aden never fails to book an ulu place for our chalet. Watched soccer together, played game consoles, atmosphere like totally different from camp. Too bad part Cs were having Spec course therefore could not join the rest of the company, part A attendance for chalet also quite bad. Couldn't go down to SISPEC to see my cadets POP as I had SL project with junan, junkai and daryll. Got 5 awards again, same as last year. Well done part Cs.

Posting, the last and hardest task for our training team. It was a long and tedious process, but finally we managed to come to a consesus and the final posts were finalised. Part Cs, remember this, no matter what post you get, ultimately you guys are still working for the same unit, the same goal. Conflicts will be unevitable, but it is how you guys overcome it and emerge as a stronger part thats important. Posting should not be something that breaks part spirit.

ORD, last day of our official NCC career. There was a sense of unwillingness, but I knew that I hadt to let go and move on. After the parade, part Ds went to do drills and cheer along the way. Really brings back alot of memories of cadet life, of how we so badly wanted tough drill sessions to end quickly. Ironically I wished that this drill session could last forever, and I am sure many of my brothers felt the same way. ORD nite, almost shed tears while the montage was being shown, knew that it was impossible but still hoped that I could turn time around and be that cadet in the picture once again. Gifts, thanks for the june-cat (coincidentally, cat has 9 lives), milo, gloves and bottle. Thanks bertram's mum for the minature cap too. Last debrief, last time to speak to the part. Glad that I was able to say all thses things in front of my part for one last time. From then on, you guys are on your own. Thanks for all the great memories and I would like to wish the next batch of HCINCC NCOs, all the best in your future endaveours.

Went school to slack celebrate racial harmony day. No flag raising due to rain so spent the time doing homework. Wenshan told me about the new backstabbing cases in our class..Sigh, duno why sec 4 liao still got these kind of childish people who just love getting other people into trouble. 所谓:“己所不欲,勿施于人”, how would you like it if other people start reporting everything you've done wrong to authorities just to get you deep sh*t, or trying to sow discord among you and your friends? Sometimes I really don't know whether to feel proud to be in the top class in the cohort, or feel ashamed because our class is notorious for stealing, howling and all these kind of crap. This once again proves that high IQ dosen't mean high EQ.

On a lighter note, went to do NE survey which everyone basically blindly clicked, then went to play soccer for awhile. The stalls over at KKH are totally scam, $3 for a seemingly large portion of nasi lemak which comprises of 90% rice. Sat around and slacked with some of my brothers in KKH while listening to Gerald's pro piano skills.

Went for Chinese yoyo (扯铃) after that. Quite fun actually, compared to other sabbaticals, can learn some cool tricks also. Went to library to mug with Yit Khai and Jun Kai until 2pm while waiting for my parents to fetch me. Went to market to eat with my family and saw this whole bunch of part Cs, very prominent coz all wearing their red part tee. Brings back memories of how I used to knocktrain them when I was still an NCO, and now they are already in our positions one year ago.

Went to sim lim to get a new printer coz my old one spoilt. Managed to find one at a steal, $88. Came home and tried it out, not bad actually. Hope it can last more than 1 year..

Thats all, time for dinner, and homework before I start working on my part D post. Can expect it to be up by tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Bye

Slacking now after typing half of my Part D life post...

Went to watch Red Cliff (赤壁) with my family yesterday. The storyline quite nice, war scenes also very dramatic, except that the whole story did not end after 2.5hours, but instead got the words "to be continued". Scammer. There was a huge commotion among the audience the moment the words appeared on the screen.

Shall try to do abit of homework before I sleep. Tmr is racial harmony day, can slack. Going for chinese yoyo with Ferris. Hope that it will be fun.

Thats all, bb.

Part C 2007

Training Team: Khang Wen, Bing Yeow, Zhong Hong, Jonathan

“Most senior training part”, This was the phrase that we used to hear over and over again. Indeed, the NCOs had high expectations for us the moment they took over, first of which was to perform well during NDP as the Guard-of-Honour. I was shocked when Bing Yeow used the **** word during our first debrief, as I had thought that it was quite inappropriate. Nevertheless, we trained hard for drills and I managed to get into GOH contingent. I am glad to say that we performed well as GOH, (video can be found here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qZSUqS_7S1g). Ran back to the donation board where we got zhammed last year, but received a pleasant surprise instead. Our training team bought us a chocolate cake, with a written note inside. Can’t remember what was in it though. Could not really enjoy ourselves though, when we saw the rest of our platoonmates in the supporting contingent running past us to MSCP where they were punished by Yi Ming for putting up a below par performance.

FHAG cake.

Orienteering Competition selection soon followed, and we had to run 6.6km in long 4. Honestly this was the longest distance I have ever ran in one go at that time. Tried my best though and managed to get around 38mins. The team was chosen shortly after the test, Weilong, Yisheng, Ferris, Daryll and Houshun. Houshun volunteered to be the reserve a few days before the competition. Come to think of it, OC selection process was quite easy and straightforward then compared to my training team when we had to choose the OC team. They eventually got route C Champions, resulting in a 2-year streak for HCINCC.

IMT, got marksman narrowly again, 17/20 out of the 16/20 criteria. Renjie got perfect score! Was chosen for IMT competition this time round, together with Ren Jie, Jonj, Yu Xuan and Aden. The extra trainings were hiong, do all sorts of weird exercises aimed to train our arm and back muscles. Proned in PE shirt for quite long also. One of the trainings, our NCOs managed to help us to practise hands-on shooting at the air rifle range. The guy over there meng niao us, say we no arm strength to cock the rifle. We simply ignored him coz we knew better =). Aden managed to hit the bullseye.

The day of the competition arrived. HQ's efficency was as usual, expectedly slow. They told us that this year there was going to be individual category, whereby the best 10 or 20 shooters would receive an award. Used the time to calm myself down and familarise myself with the shooting fundamentals and procedure. Was very nervous by the time I went into the dark shooting room, but somehow the feeling was gone once I took up prone position and held on to the rifle tightly. Jia Jun, our USM then, was standing behind me. I knew that I could not afford to disappoint. One by one, the targets went down. My confidence received a massive boost. Eventually, I managed to get a perfect score, 20/20. Was totally exhausted at the end of the 20 rounds, but happy nevertheless. Sometime later, HQ sent a 3rd place medal to our school, and Khang Wen played a prank by asking us who left the medal in bunk, lol. Probably did not get 1st place based on the grouping shots before the fig.12 shots.

The medal.

EOY camp, our last camp as cadets. RSM was Jian Hua. Also couldn't remember much about the camp, except that Jun Yan who was in my section was BOS for the first day and had to do leopard crawl in smart 4, resulting in him having rashes and had to report sick at night. Third day was an amazing race at pulau ubin. I still remembered that I chatted with Troy alot when we were trekking to pass time. At that time, I was unable to differentiate between Troy and Chong Yee, and between Yu Jie and Zheng Xiang. Ok random. Did solonite at clock tower. There was a time when I was rubbing my eyes then at that time they switched off the lights and when I opened my eyes back it was suddenly very dark. Heart almost stopped beating. Was thinking about stuff to prevent myself from sleeping and found it ironic that I was in the middle of CLOCK tower but was unable to tell the time.

AI selection after camp. Was chosen together with Bertram, Aaron, Ferris and Sam's, out of which 4/5 would be in Part C training team. AI course was fun, get to play with real MK-IV rifles. The food there was nice too, had ice-cream as dessert after lunch. Master Zaini told us not to do advanced drills, and if NCOs ask us to do, we also cannot do. He then told us how his little finger got broken by a rifle and he could not play the guitar anymore. After AI course was orientation performance. Those who went for AI missed out on some trainings and had to catch up by memorising the drill list and practising by themselves. I practised the performance a few times at home with an umbrella before going to training the next day, but screwed up quite badly a few times, spoiling the performance. I had to admit that I did not put in much effort into catching up with the rest, and complacency got the better of me. Bing Yeow pulled me out and knocked me after one of the rehearsal and gave me a wake up call. I was grateful for that and tried my best for subsequent performances.

Chionged Drill, IFC and Trainfire mutuals and completed them before the start of the year. Shall not elaborate on how boring these presentations are. Went for this HQ test which was meant for the previous batch NCC ppl who did not manage to go spec course. Just before we left, it rained heavily and there was no bus for us, so we got drenched walking back to the bus stop. Nevertheless, we got a valuable hands-on experience on these tests.

Was promoted to CPL after the EOY camp as the basic criteria was to pass PT test excluding 2.4 because khang wen did not want to kill us during camp. As I passed the 2 components, I was promoted. The rest who were not promoted had to pass all 3 components to get their rank after camp. Even so, I was determined to pass all 3 components of PT test so that I could justify my rank. Kept training up my 2.4 after school together with some of my platoonmates. My timing improved from above 12 mins to below 11.30min, which was the criteria for 2.4, and I finally managed to pass the PT tests.

Immersion trainings followed suit, I was with weijing in one and with yisheng in another, training part B and part A respectively. For part B we did orienteering and for part A it was drills. During the drill session with part A, I was shocked to see Shaun's face turn so red, and I thought he had a heatstroke, until someone told me that his face is always so red during drills.

NCC day, was in charge together with Aaron. Most of the choreographing was done by Aaron though. During one of the trainings at HQ, the people who were doing saturn tosses kept dropping rifle, and some other school people looking by were laughing. Ting Feng went to confront them and ask them to come out and show. Haha pro man. The white shirt with the red cross at the back, Ting Feng said that it was to cross out the mouths of those people who critisise us. The performance went moderately well at the end, considering that the lighting conditions were extremely bad. This experience was very beneficial to me, as I generally has a bad temper and will get frustrated easily, but I quickly found out this weakness from my platoonmates and tried to work on them before our NCOship started.

Mid-Year camp was reduced to a full day training. According to Khang Wen, we did rather well. Spec course next. Was in alpha 3 together with weilong, jonj, jaron, renjie and yitkhai. I remembered that Jonj tried to talk to some RV girls but got daoed by them. Dam funny. One of the days I casually asked my PC if I could be section IC, but Weilong was IC the day before and the Sir said it would seem that he was biased towards HCI if he chose me. Eventually, when the PC had to nominate 3 ppl for Best Cadet interview, our PC chose Weilong, me and jonj. Talk about biasness. There were 2 rounds of interviews. Me and Jonj went for the 2nd one and eventually Jonj got chosen as the BC for our section. We got 5 awards in total, good achievement. Passed out with 2SG rank.

Posting. Actually I had thought that I would be PDS 2IC. Apparently the NCOs thought so too, as during the interview they asked me questions related to the post. Due to unforseen circumstances though, I was given part C APS instead. Zhi Yi thought that I would be unhappy with the post, and came to talk to me after posting, but in fact I was fine with it. Since I am given this post, might as well make the best out of it. With this mindset, I entered the last phase of my NCC career.

Part B 2006

Training Team: Zhi Yi, Shuo Xian, Guan Chiang, Nicholas

Ok, start of the 4-man training team. On the day of ORD, Zhi Yi took us for a round of drills (forget if it was before or after the parade). I that time still blur blur, didn’t find it weird that he came to give us drills, and also don’t know that he is going to be our PS. I didn’t even recall seeing him during previous trainings at all. The only guy I remembered was Guan Chiang, because he and Ding Jie used to scold me in bunk during camp when I do stupid stuff like wearing beret while sitting down.

Our slack part A life came to an end when Zhi Yi said the words “By the way, I am your PS” when he was debriefing us near the admin block. Couldn’t remember what was the building there before it was demolished. The transition from part A life to part B life totally caught us by surprise. 1st training, we have agreed in the classroom that for each person who pon, the rest do 60. This did not work very well apparently, as our part strength still reduced from 41 to 33, and then to 32. I still remembered that at the start of every training, there would be a certain zhamming session that awaits us, as Zhi Yi was very particular about attendance. After all the initial scolding and pumping, we would be given one minute exactly to fall in at MSCP. We were frequently late. Tekan sessions included pumping us in front of clock tower when we fell in late, resulting in many people having blisters due to the hot tile (Yit Khai kept the peeled-off skin from his palm in his wallet compartment), as well as one training whereby he tekanned us until there were very little people left in the part as one guy ponned the training.

The tekan training included a hiong drill session under the sun at the top deck at mscp, in which I reported sick, but I joined back after the drill session when he asked us to fall in in front of our old bunk. He then gave us 30 seconds to run to TKK statue and run back, and of course we would be late. Then he would settle the pumpings for being late, and make us run again. This process was repeated a few times. Even though it was hiong, I did not report sick for this period and for what was to follow. He fell us in at mscp, made us run to one side, knock it down carry on 1, then run to other side knock it down carry on 1(repeated a few times). After that was another hiong drill session in which whoever screws up must run to TKK statue and run back within a time limit (2 min I think). I screwed up a few times, and I still remembered seeing aaron running back from TKK as I was running towards it. After a few times, I knew I couldn’t possibly make it in time, so I just gave up and walked back, reach the stairs of MSCP then start to run again. Guan Chiang asked me how long was I late, then I told him I don’t have watch (of course, I knew that I was super late, but NCOS couldn’t possibly take the times of everyone who was running to TKK). He seemed to accept that reason and I was not screwed further. A long debrief followed thereafter and that concluded the toughest training of our NCC life.

NDP, I was the right marker for the supporting contingent and had to march to the marking first. On that day I think I did not march in a straight line as I could not see the yellow spray-paint marking on the floor and had to make a sudden shift to get to my marking. The march-pass was screwed up also, I still remember we could not coordinate with the band’s beats once they changed the music. Got screwed by Zhi Yi in front of donation board.

Zhi Yi, our PS then. We disappointed him by screwing up NDP.

Was right marker for NDP. Look at my lousy uniform. Hah

Supporting contingent.

1st PDS training, my IC called me and asked me to bring half U on wednesday. I was puzzled. The next day Ting Feng intoduced himself and told us that he would be teaching us PDS. It was compulsary for everyone to learn, starting for my batch, but it was alright since I already intended to join. I volunteered to be the PDS IC for my part. For the subsequent trainings, the ponners gave me a hard time, as well as some others who gave lame excuses to not come training. I had to remember the various reasons why they did not come, but thankfully Ting Feng turned out to be a kind NCO and did not gave me as much pressure as Zhi Yi gave the normal training ICs if there were ponners.

There was a particular ponner that Zhi Yi tried to get back then. The training team would go to his class after school to talk to him and try to get him back. Once, our whole part still went to his house to get him back, but to no avail. In the end, during one of the PDS trainings, he brought a metal pole to threaten Zhi Yi, but was caught in the end by some teachers. Training ended early that day. I could still remember that ponner crying as he was sorrounded by 2 or 3 teachers. We were later asked in bunk if Zhi Yi subjected us to any unreasonable punishments. The ponner eventually quitted, but I still want to thank Zhi Yi for his unwavering efforts to get those who were uninterested to come back.

IMT, screwed up again (zzz why we keep screwing up). Zhi Yi asked us to set goals for for many marksman, how many passes. But obviously we did not manage to achieve it. Requirements for marksman was 3 groupings out of 4 with 4.0cm and below, and pass was 2 out of 4 with 6.0cm and below. I almost missed marksman, with groupings of 2.3, 3.something and 4.0, and some other that was between 4 and 6. Got screwed when we came back to school. I got shortlisted for IMT comp with renjie, jaron, aden, yuxuan, daryll, and some which I couldn't remember. Went for a few hiong PT sessions but did not get into the competition team eventually as Zhi Yi said that I could not hold the rifle firmly. Nevertheless, I was glad that our part's shooting team managed to get term 3rd for the competition. This was considered a great achievement as our unit's shooting was generally not as good.

Don't remember much about december camp except that I was at canteen for solonite. Orientation. Was in unarmed combat section. Was doing with Aaron initially but he got called over to pair up with bert after gerald got injured. So I got paired up with Jun Kai instead. 1st time applying camo paint on face, felt damn disgusting. Damn hard to wash off also. Mid year camp. Quite slack. Had some amazing race around singapore in PT-kit and barbecue on last day. Called into interview room but screwed up big time, and was never called again for the rest of the camp. yisheng was BOS for one of the days, but he kept on calling our RSM, Shuo Xian BOS instead, and got screwed alot of times.

Went for Camp Feast. Enjoyed ourselves but lacked discipline during the camp. Got screwed by Zhi Yi again, this time under the big tree outside HQ. If I am not wrong, he blamed daryll for setting an example as the best cadet of our previous mid-year camp. He also scolded ren jie for smiling when he screwed up a drill during camp feast. When there were people who walked out of HQ, he would recover us and told us to talk cock as if nothing happened. Did the punishment in the form of holding half-position for some time. Some of us found it unfair, some blamed Zhi Yi for being so strict, some cried as well. After that experience, whenever any of us went to HQ, memories of that incident would flow back as we walk past the tree.

Alot of theft cases happened during my Part B life, I lost 2 handphones during this period, one of which I just bought less then 24 hours ago. Later when we checked, the glass on the window can be pulled out so that someone can climb in...Tsk..unlucky me.

Silver wings, went for the course with Bertram, Aaron, Weijing, Jun An, Daryll, Wei Long, Alfred, Ren Jie and Yisheng. I still remembred that my name was called last when Zhi Yi was announcing the list. Anyway, we went there and showed them our zai standards. The sirs kept on praising us for our drills and discipline. Our boots were so shiny that the sir thought that Daryll was using kilat(liquid polish), which we never even heard of before. Alot of us slept during the lectures though.

ORD. Was better prepared this time. Gave Zhi Yi a gorilla, complete with a miniature no.4 uniform sewn by bert's dam zai mum. Gave the other NCOs a dog-tag each also, very expensive. Felt sadder this time when our training team was leaving. Alot of NCOs from this batch came back as CLTs.

Bert mum's zai sewing skills

Here, as promised.

Note that the events of this post are mainly based on my memory, so some stuff might not be accurate. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet; don’t want to write research paper on NCC life like weijing and bert…

Part A 2005

Training Team: Rui Yi, Hong Jie, Soon Huat, Nigel, Marvin, Lian Joo

When I first came to HCI, I initially wanted to join track and field since I got short listed when I went for the trials during sec 1orientation. I still remembered that it was Yit Khai who persuaded me to join NCC, since we were the only ones who came to HCI from our primary school. So during the selection, I put NCC as my first choice without giving much thought, little did I know that this decision will change my life for the next 4 years of my secondary school life…

First training at block B, our usual camp parade square, in pt kit. Couldn’t recall much, but I knew that Rui Yi asked us our favourite soccer club, then almost everyone said those popular clubs like Man U or Chelsea, but I said Newcastle as it was my favourite club then. Then the NCOs were squabbling about which club was better. We were also asked to introduce ourselves, and everyone was introducing themselves normally until this stupid guy who stood up and mumbled some words then sat down, giving that heck care face. Then when Rui Yi asked him, he started to whine like some kid about how he didn’t want to join NCC, but was forced into it. Fortunately, he managed to quit somehow, as I had a very bad impression of him then. We learnt Keluar Baris / Bersurai after that. Weilong chosen as I/C and Jonj timer.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I tried to do push ups at home after the first training as Rui Yi said that NCC have to do a lot of push ups, and realized that I could do none. =.=

1st time going down to HQ, could already sense the level of efficiency there. Waited damn long before we got our uniforms, and Ferris had to fill up some form coz he was not Singaporean. Actually some chengdu panda also, but I can’t be bothered about him. Learnt how to fold sleeves, starch uniform, polish boots etc. back in school.

1st time wearing no. 4 for training, don’t know how to use garters. Thankfully kind senior Hewlett taught me how to wear. I tried to do some push ups in bunk while wearing no.4, and found it freaking hard (this was after a few trainings with PT kit, and I could do push ups already). Jonj once accused me of using liquid polish when my boots were shinier then his, lol.

On one of the trainings, Khang Chiang (Khang Wen’s bro), the USM then, came to our training and drill us like siao, together with Wan Peng. He gave like duno how many consecutive kekanan pusing drills until we dizzy, then shouted the command into one of the cadet’s ears when he said he couldn’t hear him properly. Then I was damn traumatized when Wan Peng came to me and said “adjust lar, adjust some more” in a super-threatening way when I did not keep my fingers straight in senang-diri position.

June Camp arrived. Soon Huat was RSM. It was the first and most hiong camp I have ever experienced in my lifetime. First muster parade took 1 hour +, and if anyone report sick during the muster parade the whole company would be asked to report attendance again, same if someone decides to join back after reporting sick. The rest of the 4day3night camp was just drills, pt, drills, pt, other then wargames and solonite. Activities like route march, orienteering around namly/linden/botanical gardens were planned only for subsequent camps. I remembered the 1st day dinner I was eating with my section, then I said that I was looking to bath time. Then senior Hewlett told me that after bunk check, I wouldn’t have the strength to bathe anymore. I was puzzled at that time, but understood what he meant a few moments later. Haha, those in NCC should know what bunk check is like, so I shan’t elaborate further. Just leave it to your imagination. =) Hong Run, who was in my section, eventually got the best cadet award among the final candidates. I supposed it was the sir that checked our bunk on the 3rd day who recommended him, coz after his interview he just came into the bunk and carried on all the push ups we have done, and when the sir asked him if he want to rest awhile he said no need because the whole section waiting for him in pumping position. Zai.

Last training before ORD I think, we were asked to do 80 push ups and run driveway. I was the only guy who got the details wrong and brought no 4 only without PT kit. So I had to do everything in no 4. Almost wanted to report sick after the first round of running, luckily at that time Hong Jie didn’t accept my reason for reporting sick and so I continued running. Come to think of it, I just treated NCC as an ep3 which I attend regularly every Friday, without any special significance. I didn’t know a lot of my platoonmates too. Maybe that’s why I was quite slack during part A and un-enthu. But even though I found NCC tough, I still attended it every Friday because I knew that the I/C would be put in a spot every week when the NCOs ask him to account for the missing cadets.

ORD, we did a lousy performance titled “Life of a Part A cadet”, after some NCO told us not to do that. Part Bs did some drills in Chinese, including hentak-kaki cheer, and some game where they imitate an NCO’s behavior and ask them to guess who it is, while part Cs did games. For presents we just gave some crappy teddy bears and soft toys which have little significance. During debrief, we were asked to space out and stand while keeping eyes closed for around 1 hour. Felt dam terrible coz cannot see + cannot adjust, lol. NCOs came by and talked to us one by one. I still remember Hong Jie asked me to smile, and then tickled me when I did not.

That’s all for Part A life, I did not really feel sad when the NCOs left, maybe it was because we were not mature enough to appreciate them or NCC did not have a special significance for us then.

Hello everyone.

Was one of the panelist for the chinese CA discussion today. Chionged through my speech before my chinese teacher came in, because she would surely start to scold, nag or interrupt people when they are talking. Yes, you guessed it right. She is old and single, and sometimes we wonder if she stays at home everyday thinking of new ways to torture us. Oh ya NCC ppl, she was the teacher who didn't allow us to use ep3 shed for ORD parade and scolded weijing for squeezing through her =.=

Ok so after that nothing interesting happened during class, except for the fact that our lessons ended at 12noon coz Mrs Har was away from school. So me and wenshan used the time to try to bond ferris, but i only managed to get 2 buttons off. lol. After that I went to SALT centre, saw junkai, sam and elffred there. Elffred was stripping playing with the st john doll and making sickremarks.

The rest of us met up at gym at 2.30, since we had nowhere else to go. Trained for awhile and went to run cardio, then went to play basketball with the rest of my brothers. Haha elffred never fails to entertain us. Went to KAP then came back home.

Shall post my recount of my NCC life in installments, stay tuned for the 1st part tmr.

Tata.

Edit: sorry forgot to mention that some of our class ppl's calculators are stolen...tsk..i seriously hope it is not an insider job. Our class have gotten into enough trouble already. Let me try to list some:

Loss of glass block during physics practical.
Loss of protractor during physics practical.
Howling noises which resulted in school counsellor, May, having to talk to our class.
Water all over class computer, plugs damaged, mouse buttons plucked off.
Loss of microscope slide during bio practical.
Loss of scapel during bio practical.
Loss of calculators.

Sigh, duno what to say...best class in cohort for results but lowest for integrity.

Waiting for my tuition teacher to arrive anytime soon.

P.S the ncc post i did finish part a liao, left 3 more parts to go..shall chiong during the weekends.

Still typing the uber long post in microsoft word...guess it will take a couple of days more.

Haiz...feel so guilty. Today while walking to SALT centre, ferris told me that he was very disappointed with his results this term (physics b3, chem b3 and chinese b4), and that he nv put in enough effort. If he study liddat considered not putting in effort then I think I deserve to fail all subjects liao. I used to think that subjects like chinese cannot be mugged, but Ferris took back the chinese dictionary to study in order to improve his vocab, damn zai lar. I admire his dilligence alot, even though sometimes I think he have no life, though I know that its useless for me to just stand by and watch others improve. My results are crappy as of now (physics b3, chem a2, chinese c5). Shall make an effort to study hard, dont want to leave high school with regrets.

Went to gym today to workout and destress and gossip. Wednesdays are just so empty without PDS trainings...maybe i should go and run 10km on friday also, right now my leg muscles are aching (those kind that will buckle if u bend your knees while standing up).
